US President Donald Trump on Friday released a video purporting to show dozens of Houthi fighters being killed in a US strike in Yemen, adding a comment with the word "oops".
In the footage posted on his Truth Social network, which appears to have been shot by military drones or other aerial vehicles, several dozen human figures are seen from an almost vertical angle, media reports.
"This group of Houthi rebels have gathered for instructions on an attack," Trump wrote in the accompanying text, using an alternative spelling for the Yemeni rebel group.
US forces have carried out major strikes in Yemen in recent weeks in response to the group's attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea.
In the video, people are gathered in an oval shape along a road and appear with a sign similar to a gun camera viewer's sign.
After a few seconds, a bright explosion appears in the middle of the scene, followed by a cloud of smoke. The view cuts to a wider area, showing a column of smoke above the apparent impact site and several parked vehicles beyond. The camera then focuses again and shows a large crater at the impact point, but the bodies are not identifiable.
"Oops, no more attacks from these Houthis," Trump wrote. "They won't be able to sink our ships anymore!"
Houthi officials and media reported several casualties in dozens of attacks this week, which they blame on the US.
The group has attacked commercial and military ships, saying it is a response to Israel's campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Washington announced on Wednesday that it will send a second aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, to join the USS Harry S. Truman in the Middle East "to continue to promote regional stability, deter aggression, and protect the free flow of commerce in the region."
These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis!
