United States President Donald Trump has officially nominated acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take over the top law enforcement post on a permanent basis, sending the nomination to the Senate.
Blanche, who previously served as one of Trump's personal lawyers, has been nominated to replace Pam Bondi, who was fired in April. The nomination officially opens the Senate confirmation process, where the nominee needs a simple majority of votes to be approved.
However, the process is expected to face political scrutiny, including issues related to the Jeffrey Epstein dossier and his involvement in controversial financial initiatives. Despite this, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has signaled support for the nomination and intends to move the confirmation process forward quickly.
