Tragic / Football player is shot dead in Johannesburg

South African footballer Luke Fleurs has been shot dead in a carjacking in Johannesburg.

Kaizer Chiefs, the defender's team, confirmed the tragic news on social media.

They remembered the 24-year-old and consoled his family and friends, "Mirror" writes.

Footballer Luke Fleurs has been shot dead during an attempted robbery in Johannesburg.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs footballer Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a kidnapping incident in Johannesburg. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace," wrote the South African club.

The Kaizer Chiefs star was shot dead in a carjacking on the outskirts of Johannesburg while the defender was waiting at a petrol station.
