A serious incident of rape within the family, which happened a year ago in Vrellë of Istog, which has now become public, has shocked the public opinion in Kosovo.

According to the Kosovo police, 39-year-old IM is accused of raping his niece, his brother's daughter, who is a minor, in September 2021. The event was discovered after the denunciation of the minor who narrated the details of the serious event that happened at the age of 14.

Although the exact details of the circumstances in which the incident took place are still unknown, the State Prosecutor has ordered his arrest and detention. The 39-year-old man was handcuffed and escorted to the police station, but due to his health condition, he was not sent to the Detention Center, but a decision was issued to detain him for 48 hours, during which time he will be under the care of the Police while receiving medical treatment. hospital.

According to the same sources, the case is under investigation by the State Prosecutor as "Rape", while it is expected that other actions will be taken as soon as evidence is provided that proves the involvement of the suspect in this case, and then it is expected to be determined for the offense with which the same will be charged.

Cases of rape and sexual relations within the family are offenses sanctioned by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

Anyone who commits sexual acts with ancestors or descendants of the family, sisters or brothers, nephews or nieces is punished with imprisonment.
