Four people were rescued by Italian police after they got stuck underground while digging a tunnel on Via Innocenzo XI in Rome. Initially, 3 were rescued and stopped by the carabinieri, while a fourth was found only later by the firemen after being trapped for hours at a depth of about 5 meters.
The hypothesis is that in this way they wanted to reach a bank vault, 300 meters away. They were the first three to be rescued by calling for help when at some point, the gallery began to fail.
The police say that the arrested persons have criminal records. Firefighters, with the help of specialists, worked for several hours to extract the fourth person stuck underground. During the recovery operation, he was supplied with oxygen and given food.
