The meeting between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron, held at the Chigi Palace in Rome, concluded late Tuesday evening.
The talks between the two leaders lasted about three hours, followed by an informal dinner.
While greeting the photographers who captured the moment of their meeting with a handshake, Meloni said with a smile: "Tonight I see that your presence is massive, as befits important occasions."
According to diplomatic sources, the main topics of the meeting were the situation in Ukraine and Europe's common position, Euro-Atlantic relations, as well as developments in the Middle East.
Italian media emphasize that the meeting was organized to ease the disagreements between Rome and Paris, which have emerged in recent weeks.
The meeting referred in particular to the strategy that could lead to a stable and permanent peace in Ukraine, but also to the most appropriate relationship between Europe and the Trump administration, with the aim of resolving disputes regarding trade tariffs.
