A powerful hurricane-sized storm hit Portugal and Spain, killing at least six people in both countries. The worst damage was recorded in Portugal, where more than 800,000 people were left without electricity.
These footages show the extensive damage caused throughout Portugal by the powerful storm Kristin, which hit Portugal this Wednesday and has already affected western Spain.
Five people have died in Portugal as a result of incidents caused by hurricane-force winds that reached 150 km/h. Four of the victims died in Leiria, while another died in a town on the outskirts of Lisbon. In the coastal city of Figueira da Foz, strong winds also toppled a large carousel in one of the city's main squares.
The storm uprooted trees, damaging dozens of vehicles. Power lines were downed, leaving over 800,000 residents without power. The force of the wind caused windows to break in many buildings, causing problems with road and rail traffic.
Storm Kristin also claimed its first victim in Spain, where a woman was hit by a tree falling due to strong winds. Authorities have issued a red alert for the south of the country, where winds are expected to reach extreme strength.
