DN6 in Romania, known by locals as the "road of death"

A tragic accident occurred yesterday, January 28, on the DN6 highway in Romania, known by locals as the "road of death", causing the deaths of seven people and leaving several others injured.

A van carrying fans of the Greek club PAOK and a truck with a Polish driver, who has more than 34 years of experience, fatally collided on the highway.

The truck driver, who has traveled over a million kilometers during his work, expressed shock at the incident.

"I've been driving a truck for 34 years and I've never seen anything like this. This is the first time I've faced such a situation," he told Romanian media outlet Libertatea.

He described the tense moments that occurred within a few seconds on the highway, emphasizing that it was a collision that probably occurred due to a maneuvering error by the van driver.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the van was attempting to overtake another vehicle, but during the maneuver he realized he could not complete the overtaking and swerved to the right, where the truck was located.

The witness was the person who called 112 emergency services and said he saw one of the survivors getting out of the vehicle on foot after the accident.

This accident is considered the worst in the Timișoara region in the last 20 years and raises serious questions about the safety of Romanian highways. Experts point out that DN6 has old infrastructure, a lack of safe lanes and frequent violations of traffic rules by drivers.

The DN6 highway connects the main cities of Western Romania and has gained notoriety due to numerous accidents in the past.

Recent crashes are linked not only to high speeds, but also to dangerous driver maneuvers and a lack of lane protection.

Yesterday's accident raises serious concerns for the safety of passengers and crew. The incident has shocked the sports community, while one of the victims is Albanian.
