Students rise up against the Albanian mafia in Ecuador

Students have protested in Ecuador, demanding the resignation of the country's president, after the media published an investigation that says he has ties to the Albanian mafia.

Students protested with banners "Ecuador says NO". According to them, Ecuador is becoming a failed state. Young people protested in front of the parliament, demanding to start the proceedings to impeach President Guillermo Lasso.

The latter decided to attack and threaten the journalists of the La Posta portal, which published the investigation. Journalists responded by saying they reject this autocratic and intimidating behavior. The prosecutor's office says it has started investigations into the case.

La Posta published an investigation, based on Ecuadorian intelligence information, which states that the president's brother-in-law, Danila Carrera, is connected to the Albanian mafia. He maintains these contacts through his friend, Ruben Cherrez.

Carrera and Cherrez were the people responsible for placing high government officials. A few days ago, the country's Minister of Agriculture resigned after learning that he had been appointed to this post by the Carrera-Cherrez duo. Ecuadorian media write that the name of the Albanian, with whom Carrera and Cherrez are connected, is Dritan Gjika.
