A serious scandal has rocked Austrian football. An Austrian court has sentenced a former official of the SCR Altach club to seven months in prison and a fine of 1,200 euros, after finding him guilty of secretly filming and photographing women in the locker room, gym and shower rooms of the women's team.
According to the prosecution, around 30 players have been identified in the seized materials. The convicted person was also ordered to pay 625 euros in compensation to each victim.
The case has sparked strong public reactions. Footballer Eleni Rittmann, who currently plays for Thonon Évian Grand Genève FC in France and was previously part of Altach, called the punishment inappropriate.
In a public reaction on social media, she emphasized that the perpetrator was a high-level referee in Switzerland and at the same time a club official, adding that some of the players were minors at the time the events occurred.
Rittmann questioned whether such a punishment constitutes a sufficient warning, stressing that the case has seriously violated the athletes' sense of security and privacy.
