A serious incident occurred this Wednesday morning in the suburbs of Rome, where a 41-year-old woman was attacked with a machete by her father-in-law. As Ansa writes, the episode occurred on Via di Bravetta, immediately after the woman had accompanied her children to school.
According to the Carabinieri, the 85-year-old man ambushed his son's daughter-in-law, hitting her about ten times in the head and hands. The attack is suspected to be related to his opposition to his wife's decision to separate from her son.
The tragedy was averted thanks to the immediate intervention of an off-duty carabinieri who happened to be there, who managed to disarm and neutralize the aggressor until the patrol arrived.
The woman was rushed to hospital in serious condition, but according to doctors in San Camillo Forlanini, her life is out of danger. She suffered wounds to her head and hand, which were immediately stitched up, while the possibility of surgery on her hand is not ruled out.
The elderly man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, while the murder weapon has been seized. Investigations are continuing to fully clarify the motives for the attack.
