"Treacherous behavior", 20 EU countries against Orban: No one asked
Orban and Putin

Hungary's future at the helm of the European Union presidency is uncertain. This comes as a group of European countries, including Germany and the Baltic states, are considering the possibility of launching an initiative to remove the next EU presidency from Hungary, if Viktor Orbán continues with his so-called "peacekeeping missions" and without any coordination with the European institutions and the governments of the member states. The news has been confirmed by the prestigious Politico and the German media.

"Orban's parallel diplomacy while he holds the rotating presidency - says a European diplomat - is a humiliation for the EU, because it confuses the roles and threatens the determination and unity shown so far by Europe in opposing the goals of Putin's expansionist policies and support for Kiev". "It has never been seen - adds another - that a current president goes around the world saying things, even in a personal capacity, in total opposition to the decisions of the European Union".

Since taking the helm of the EU on July 1, Orban has embarked on a series of trips aimed, he says, at promoting a ceasefire in Ukraine, which has taken everyone by surprise.

Above all the visit to Moscow, where Putin welcomed him with open arms, but clearly telling him that he has no intention of giving up his conditions for a possible negotiation.

The hypothesis of the premature removal of the presidency from Budapest remains a recent scenario, absolutely unprecedented in the history of the Union. But the very fact that it is mentioned proves the importance of the situation.

Procedurally, this is difficult but not impossible: in fact, a qualified four-fifths majority in the Council, i.e. twenty countries representing together at least 65% of the European population, would be needed to decide to it ends another presidency, transferring it to the next country, which in this case is Poland.
