A 43-year-old man has been taken hostage in South Africa, on account of a Colombian cartel that demands millions of euros to release him.

According to local media, Peter Jaggers, considered the boss of drug distribution in Cape Town, disappeared a few days ago when he landed at the airport, never to be seen again.

According to evidence, he was taken hostage by Serbs and Bulgarians, who are suspected of acting on behalf of the Colombian cartel.

The incident is suspected to be related to the loss of a large cargo of cocaine a month ago when a fishing vessel was reported to have broken down.

The hostage takers are reported to have sent a photo of the 43-year-old to his family, as well as a voicemail telling them he is "on his way to South America", and have a week to make a hefty multi-million dollar payment to release him. .
