The crisis that Russia is currently experiencing as a result of the Wagner group insurgency is likely to deplete Russian forces on the front line in Ukraine.
The Wagner group was one of the two largest and most effective fighting forces on the Russian side, the BBC's security correspondent Frank Gardner reports.
"The only significant military victory that Russia has achieved, if it can be qualified as such, is the capture of Bakhmut, and this was achieved by the Wagner group. This group is now out of the battlefield," he said.
And according to Gatehouse, Russia will now have to divert resources from Ukraine if it wants to stop the rebellion.
“The rest of the Russian military will now be in chaos, trying to figure out how to counter this internal threat… rather than how to counter the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Therefore, this event can be considered very positive for the Ukrainian side", said the BBC correspondent.
