The UN vote on the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica is postponed

The UN vote on a resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica has been postponed and will not take place on May 2. This is what the ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations, Zlatko Lagumxhija, said for N1 television.

"At this moment, we know that the session will not be held on May 2, as today we are sending the text of the resolution for review to see if the UN states have other proposals for the text. The General Assembly will likely convene after May 6, depending on the schedule of sessions, but we will know this on Tuesday," he said.
On May 2, representatives from the mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina will also be present at the UN. At the UN headquarters in New York, informal consultations are being held on the draft resolution, which envisages declaring July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica.

Consultations on the draft resolution have been called by the permanent missions of Germany and Rwanda, along with the missions of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, New Zealand, Slovenia , Turkey and the United States. According to the draft resolution, it is required to punish any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica.

In 2007, the International Court of Justice characterized the crime in Srebrenica as genocide, in which more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were killed in 1995 by the Republika Srpska Army. So far, more than 50 people have been sentenced to over 700 years in prison for genocide and other crimes committed in Srebrenica.
