One of the witnesses at the scene was Albanian-American Vatan Cana. He recorded several images during the attack. The Voice of America reached out to him a few hours ago to show what he saw.
He told journalist Garentina Kraja about the chaotic scenes behind the posts, including footage of Trump injured as he left the scene.
Description of what he saw.
"We were friends, we went from New York to Butler. When we went there, there were a lot of people, on the way, there was a very, very big insurance. When we got into the rally, we went through security. They checked everything, including what we had with us. When we got in, we went further ahead, to be honest we probably were about 100 feet (about 30 meters). Recording, for a moment we heard 2-3 bullets coming from Trump's right side, but from the left side of us. It was a very interesting fact that when the bullets went, one of the plumbers ("fork-lifts") that raised the loudspeakers, taught the plumber and when the bullet fired them there, we thought that the fire departments had water-fired the shooter, but the fluid (fluid) dropped everywhere, in the public. We heard another two or three shots. When that has happened, the whole rally has fallen down to earth. All the people have fallen to the ground. The secret service said, "Sit down, sit down." We all got up, but as soon as we got up, another of the secret service told us to stay down that there might be another shot. When the people heard that word, they all started running, they started crying. There were kids, people. It was a very scary scene that we didn't know what else was going to happen."
Video recording of the attack
"Being a Kosovo, in the war, I noticed that they were bullets. A friend of mine, Steve didn't believe it. I said, Steven, sit down. I got up and said, record it, see what's going on. I pulled out the phone, I saw Trump myself. When he was in the house, I saw that he had blood. I said to my friend, "They got him," meaning they got him, but we didn't know how bad the situation was. I tried to keep my phone as straight as possible. Then a helicopter arrived, I think he's shipped Trump to a nearby hospital. But that moment was very interesting, that Trump when he got up, he was saying "wait, wait" in English. He stood up and made a fist bump. I don't know how he had that courage, how he did that job, and when he put his fist up, all the people came alive and everybody shouted "Trump, Trump," "USA, USA." But at that moment, secret service said there's probably a second shooter. Then the panic started, we started running. All barridaks on the ground.
We started running. People crying, women with young children, they all started crying, we started running... Leaving the country, we went where the attacker has been. I have a video from there, where the army was, secret service trying to get on the roof. The roads were blocked and they didn't let anything go back and we started walking to the airport, about 12 kilometers, because there was no taxi, nothing.
Impact of the event
"Given the mass shootings taking place in the United States, you feel a sense of what's going to happen now. The first one ended, but we were afraid there was no other attacker. It's a very interesting feeling, like the war we've experienced in Kosovo... We couldn't believe this is happening. But in the meantime we realized that this happened. I had maybe 20 minutes because I couldn't believe I was there too."
