Melania Trump has reacted for the first time to her husband Donald Trump's attack, saying the author was a "monster" who viewed her husband as "an inhuman political machine".
In a statement posted on X, she says her and their son Barron's lives "were on the verge of devastating change" when she watched "as the bullet was addressed to her husband."
She has thanked people throughout the "political space" for their support of Trump.
