A Dutch national ended up on a deserted island, without food or water, after his boat capsized due to adverse weather conditions. The event took place on Cay Sal in the Bahamas.
He was rescued after 3 days by an American air crew, thanks to the writing "SOS" in the sand.
Another USCG Miami aircrew dropped supplies including food, water and a radio. Over the radio, the man told the crew that he had been stranded on the island for three days after his sailboat had become inoperable.
The crew of the USCG Cutter Paul Clark rescued the man from the island and transported him safely to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force.
"We are proud to have saved this man's life. This case serves as an example of why you should have the proper safety equipment on your vessel," said the Coast Guard.
