German Chancellor Olaf Scholz set today in the Bundestag some limits on further military support for Ukraine, excluding the sending of warplanes or the deployment of ground troops.
"I made it clear, even earlier, that we are not talking about fighter jets, and I am doing the same here," he said.
"We will not send ground troops under any circumstances. There will be no direct involvement of NATO soldiers in the Ukraine war. So far it has not been the case and it will not be in the future," said Scholz.
"This has been said from the beginning, not only by me, but also by the American president, Joe Biden", emphasized the German chancellor.
Scholz announced this morning that Ukraine would receive 14 "Leopard 2" battle tanks from the stocks of the Bundeswehr.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk demanded the handover of the fighter jets yesterday evening, after the German government's decision was widely reported.
