The emergency summit of EU leaders who gathered in London to once again express support for Ukraine has ended, while the US is now taking a defiant stance that excludes the EU from any peace discussions.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced a military aid package for Ukraine, worth 1.6 billion euros.

He also said he does not support the idea that the US is now "a partner you can no longer trust."

Starmer added that it is important for Ukraine to receive guarantees for peace, and to ensure that Russia will not violate the agreement again, as it has done in the past.

"I don't want conflict in Ukraine, in Europe and certainly not in the UK. I want stability in the UK."

"The way to ensure this stability is to make sure that we are able to defend a deal in Ukraine, because our history alone tells us that if there is conflict in Europe, it will erupt on our shores," Starmer said.

He said that Europe is at a "historic crossroads" and that leaders will gather again to discuss.

"We agreed that leaders will meet again very soon to keep the momentum behind these actions and continue to work towards this joint plan. Today we are at a historic crossroads," Starmer said.
