Russia aims to put new missile, Satan-2, into action within the year

Russia's new nuclear-capacity intercontinental missile, Sarmat, will become part of the military arsenal in the autumn, a senior Russian official told state media.

This comment comes days after this missile was tested.

Sarmat missile will continue to be tested until it is handed over to the military, Dmitry Rogozin, leader of the Russian Space Agency, has said.

"We plan to do this by autumn," he said in a television interview.

The missile was tested wednesday in northern Russia.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the new missile could surpass all defence systems and force those who "threaten our state to think twice".

Sarma, known to the west as Satan 2, can travel 18,000 kilometres and carry nuclear warheads.

According to Russia, this weapon enables all targets in the world to be attacked.

The first such missiles are expected to be stationed in the Siberian region.
