Maduro's downfall, CNN: 3 scenarios that await Venezuela without a

Following the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela's political future remains unclear and fraught with uncertainty. The country's constitution stipulates that power passes to Vice President Delcy Rodríguez in the event of the president's "absolute absence." However, authorities have said they do not know the whereabouts of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, further adding to the uncertainty, CNN reports.

The opposition at home and abroad sees this moment as a historic opportunity to change the regime. According to the opposition, the legitimate president is exiled politician Edmundo González, a candidate in the 2024 elections.

González, an experienced academic and diplomat, currently lives in Spain and is supported by activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado, who has said she is preparing for a smooth and orderly transition after Maduro's departure. Machado added that González has invited her to be vice president and that most of the police and armed forces will respect the new administration's instructions, CNN writes.

There are several possible scenarios for further developments:

Constitutional route – Article 233 of the Constitution: Vice President Rodríguez takes power and calls elections within 30 days. The new president will serve a full six-year term.

Regime Collapse – Senior figures may withdraw support or flee, paving the way for Gonzalez and the opposition.

A military coup – Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López has declared that Venezuela will resist foreign forces, calling this “the greatest aggression the country has suffered.”

The situation remains tense and the international community is closely following developments in Venezuela, as the country finds itself at a critical political and military point.
