Risk of a second assassination? Trump abruptly interrupts the interview: The
Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump abruptly cut short an interview with NewsNation on Thursday, telling the reporter that his security didn't want him at the site because he was a security risk.

The July 13 assassination attempt on Trump is still being investigated as a security lapse, and on Wednesday authorities announced a manhunt in Arizona for a man who allegedly threatened the former president's life. Trump was in Arizona on Thursday to talk about immigration at the southern border.

While speaking to Ali Bradley, a NewsNation reporter, Trump suddenly stopped and told her: "we are in danger standing here."

“[Security] doesn't want me to stay here. They don't want you to stay here," Trump said.

Before Trump's speech in Arizona, authorities announced the arrest of 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office told Fox News that Syvrud is accused of making threatening social media posts aimed at Trump. He was taken into custody without incident, according to Fox News.

Immigration was a key element of Trump's 2016 campaign and has remained a key campaign issue for him. He has hit out at Harris and President Joe Biden over the increase in immigrants crossing the border and, on Thursday, brought families to the border to talk about how their loved ones were killed by immigrants.

“[Trump] needs to be in office, and we need better control, and we need to stop this. We must stop losing children, mothers, sisters, because now I am sad every day," said Alexis Nungaray.

During his speech on Thursday, Trump said Harris would "never build the wall" and said Harris did not want to "do the work" to secure the border.

"The choice is simple: Kamala's mass amnesty for criminals, or President Trump's mass deportation of criminals," Trump said.

Before ending his interview with NewsNation, Trump said he is leading with voters when it comes to the border. Trump still has a commanding lead over Harris when it comes to immigration, although polls show she has seen improvement from Biden's standing with voters on the issue.
