The reservist who killed 18 people in the US remains at large

The US Army reservist who allegedly killed 18 people and injured 13 others in a mass shooting in Maine on Wednesday night is still being sought. Police say Robert Card is armed and dangerous and have asked people to stay home for their own safety.

The shooting began at a bowling alley in the town of Lewiston just before 7:00 p.m. A woman and six men were killed there. Within about 10 minutes, more gunfire was reported at a nearby restaurant, Schemengees Bar & Grille, where eight more men were shot dead.

16 injured people were initially transferred to local hospitals, three of whom later died. Maine State Police said the suspect had recently reported mental health issues, including "hearing voices and threats to shoot up a military installation in southern Maine."

He was reportedly admitted to a mental health treatment facility over the summer. Police denied earlier reports by local media that the suspect was a firearms instructor, saying there was "no indication he attended advanced weapons courses".
