Hashim Thaçi will not be released from detention, despite the defense offering a bail of 50 thousand euros and proposing 14 conditions for his conditional release.
The single judge in the attempted obstruction of justice case decided to extend his detention for another two months, leaving the measure in effect until at least October 2026.
The decision states that the financial guarantee of 50 thousand euros, offered by Thaçi's brother and two of his friends, is a positive element and helps reduce the risk of flight.
For this reason, the judge assessed that the Specialized Prosecutor's Office has failed to convincingly argue that there is a real possibility that Thaçi will leave.
However, this was not enough to release him from detention.
According to the judge, there remains a risk that Thaçi will influence the ongoing trials in the Specialized Chambers or commit other similar acts, which justifies the continuation of the detention measure.
Hashim Thaçi is the only defendant in this trial who continues to be held at the Scheveningen Detention Center. Bashkim Smakaj, Fadil Fazliu and Isni Kilaj were previously released on bail, under 14 measures, including bail, while Hajredin Kuqi has been protected at large since the beginning of the trial.
