Putin spares no praise for Serbia and Vučić

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Serbia's Citizenship Day, which is celebrated on February 15, with the message that Moscow "highly values the balanced foreign policy" followed by Belgrade.

" Serbia is an important and reliable partner of Russia. We highly appreciate the balanced course of foreign policy that Belgrade implements in the current complex international circumstances," Putin said in a congratulatory message sent to Vučić by Russian Ambassador Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko on Tuesday, February 14.

He also emphasized that Russia supports Serbia's efforts "aimed at protecting the country's territorial integrity and solving the Kosovo issue" .

In the letter, the Russian president expressed his belief that the further development of the Russian-Serbian strategic partnership fully corresponds to the interests of " fraternal nations ".

Serbia is the only country in Europe that did not impose sanctions on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

In the latest report of the European Parliament, it is stated that Serbia has respected the relevant resolutions in the General Assembly of the United Nations, but it regrets the fact that Serbia has repeatedly failed to comply with the restrictive measures of the EU against Russia.

It also regrets the fact that " the key components of the Serbian foreign policy are in direct opposition to the positions of the EU ".

In this sense, the report mentions the signing of agreements that define the common foreign policy priorities of Serbia and Russia for the period 2023-2024, as well as meetings with high-ranking officials from Russia who are on the EU sanctions list.
