The US plan for Gaza, which US President Donald Trump presented at a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has prompted a reaction from Hamas. Senior Hamas official Mohammed Mardawi described the plan in a statement to Al Jazeera as "a text that is biased towards the Israeli side."

"What was said at the press conference regarding the plan to end the war leans towards the Israeli perspective. It is close to what Netanyahu insists on continuing the war ," he stressed.

At the same time, he stressed that Hamas will not proceed with an official response before receiving the full text of the plan.

"We need to get this plan in written and clear form before we respond. The plan must reach Hamas and the Palestinian organizations," he added.

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official confirmed to the BBC that he had not received any proposal from Trump for a brokered ceasefire.

He said, however, that Hamas remained open to considering any proposal that could end the war in Gaza, but stressed that any agreement must protect Palestinian interests, ensure a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and end the war.

Asked about the organization's weapons, the official said: "The weapons of the resistance are a red line as long as the occupation continues. The issue of weapons can only be discussed within the framework of a political solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders."
