Iran used the 60-day ceasefire period to strengthen its military capabilities and prepare for a new escalation of the conflict with the United States and Israel, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the Iranian leadership did not consider the memorandum of understanding signed with the US in June to be the end of the conflict. On the contrary, hardline officials in Tehran allegedly decided in the early days of the ceasefire to prepare for another military confrontation.

According to Arab and Iranian sources cited by the WSJ, after the deal was signed, senior Iranian leaders held meetings to outline a new strategy. At its center was strengthening the Revolutionary Guard, bringing back several experienced commanders from the Iran-Iraq war to key positions, and accelerating the production of missiles and drones.

The report also claims that Iran exploited the ceasefire to increase pressure on the US and its allies in the region.

According to the cited sources, forces affiliated with Tehran took action against ships in the Strait of Hormuz and expanded operations through the Houthis in the Red Sea.

The goal, according to the report, was to increase the cost of American involvement in the conflict and create a more favorable position for Iran in the event of a resumption of fighting.

Arab intelligence agencies, according to the WSJ, have collected information that allegedly points to such a strategy. Among them are Tehran's communications with allied armed groups and forces in Iraq and Yemen.

Based on this information, US officials have warned several countries in the region of the possibility of new Iranian attacks. Kuwait is reported to be among the countries that have received warnings of a possible threat to targets that Tehran may consider "enemy territory."

The reporting comes at a sensitive time, as the 60-day deadline for the US-Iran ceasefire has expired without a final agreement.

If the claims reported by the WSJ are confirmed, this would mean that Tehran has used the ceasefire period not only for negotiations, but also to reorganize forces and increase military capabilities in anticipation of a new conflict.
