Two US military helicopters collide, "fatalities are expected"

Two US Army helicopters collided during a training mission over Kentucky on Wednesday night, an Army spokeswoman said.

Kentucky's governor said fatalities are expected and asked the public to pray for all those affected.

"We have received some bad news from Fort Campbell, after early reports of a helicopter crash and fatalities are expected," he said in a tweet.

However, it has not yet been confirmed if there were any casualties from this accident, according to reports from Reuters and the New York Times. Army spokeswoman Nondice Thurman said early Thursday that the condition of the crew members was unknown.

The incident happened at 10:00 PM on Wednesday (4:00 AM on Thursday local time in Kosovo), when two crews of the US Army were flying HH60 Blackhawk helicopters.

After the crash, the helicopters reportedly crashed in Trigg, Kentucky, west of the Fort Campbell military base.

The local army has confirmed that their helicopters were involved in this incident. " The command is currently focused on caring for service members and their families ," a spokesman for the Fort Campbell military base told the BBC.
