At least seven people were killed and more than 12 injured overnight in an accident that occurred when a driver lost control of the minibus he was driving with migrants.

The minibus was carrying more than 20 people, including children, and was traveling on the A94 motorway east of Munich.

But after being asked to stop by the police for a check, the driver sped away leading to the fatal accident.

Last month, German authorities imposed new border controls with Poland and the Czech Republic.

The arrival of illegal immigrants, most of whom are of Syrian and Afghan origin, is causing a heated debate in the country.
