Beijing reacts to US tariffs on countries trading with Iran: We will defend our

Beijing has issued a strong response to the United States ' decision to impose 25% tariffs on countries that trade with Iran , making it clear that China " will defend its interests ."

"We have always believed that there are no winners in a trade war, and China will resolutely defend its legitimate rights and interests," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference.

Safety of Chinese citizens in Iran

Asked about the safety of Chinese citizens in Iran, as well as Chinese tourists visiting the country, Mao Ning stressed that Beijing is following " very closely the developments of the situation ."

"We will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens," she said.

China is one of Iran's main trading partners and, therefore, the tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump are expected to have a direct impact on Beijing's economic interests.

Trump's decision and rising tensions

It is recalled that Trump announced through the Truth Social network that "any country that has trade relations with Iran will be subject to additional customs tariffs of 25% by the US", a decision that he described as "final", clarifying that it "takes effect immediately".

This announcement comes at a tense moment for Iran, amid ongoing protests against the regime and reports of hundreds of casualties.

At the same time, Washington is considering various ways to increase pressure on Tehran, including military options, while the leaderships of the US, Iran and Israel have exchanged successive threats in recent days.
