US President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on goods coming from countries that have trade relations with Iran.

The decision takes effect "immediately," Trump announced through his Truth Social platform, emphasizing that "this order is final and irreversible."

Iran is already under severe US sanctions and is facing a deep economic crisis, with a plummeting currency and high inflation that has pushed up food prices by up to 70%. With food accounting for about a third of the country's imports, new trade restrictions are expected to further exacerbate shortages and the cost of living.

China is Iran's largest trading partner, followed by Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and India. Trump's decision is expected to have a wide-ranging impact on international trade relations and increase economic and political tensions in the region.
