Turkey's parliament approved Sweden's admission to NATO after several months of consultations.

The parliament in Ankara voted to accept Sweden's request, sending the document to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for final signature before being deposited with the US State Department in Washington.

According to an official quoted by Bloomberg, Erdogan's AKP party, which holds the majority along with its nationalist ally, sought parliamentary approval to ratify Sweden's long-awaited entry into the military alliance.

Hungary is now the only obstacle to the expansion of the defense alliance. We recall that Sweden announced in May 2022, in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, its candidacy to join NATO, at the same time as Finland, which in April became the 31st member of the Atlantic Alliance.
