Warning: US faces biggest risks in 80 years

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has issued a stark warning about the current situation in the US, stressing that the country faces a combination of risks not seen in decades.

In an interview with The Axios Show, Dimon said the US is facing “the most simultaneous threats in 80 years,” comparing them to the period after World War II. He stressed that the challenges are not only geopolitical, but also technological and economic, with Artificial Intelligence expected to have a profound impact on the job market.

According to Dimon, Artificial Intelligence could replace a large number of workers in the medium term, while at the same time significantly increasing the risk of large-scale cyberattacks. He warned that the development of advanced AI models could empower malicious actors and rival states to carry out potentially catastrophic attacks.

Among the main risks he listed are: escalating tensions with China, Russian aggression, war in Iran, unsustainable US debt, crises in private lending, and domestic political dysfunction.

Dimon also criticized the lack of engagement of business leaders in public issues, acknowledging that the private sector has made a mistake by not intervening earlier in debates on society's structural problems.

"Society's problems cannot be solved by politicians alone," he said, calling for a more active role for business in leading the country in this turbulent period.

However, despite the alarmist tone, Dimon remains optimistic about the US's position on the global stage, highlighting the country's economic and military strength. He stressed that challenges can only be addressed if they are openly acknowledged.

On the political front, he suggested that an independent figure may be needed to address the crisis of confidence, but ruled out any possibility of entering the race himself, stating that he does not consider himself suitable for politics.

Dimon's statements come at a sensitive global moment, where the combination of geopolitical, technological and economic crises is reshaping international balances and the future of the labor market.
