For the first time, Cyprus, a country known as a fiscal haven, has decided to freeze the bank accounts of all Venetian citizens, but also of other persons who have ties to Russian oligarchs. According to the media there, it is learned that there are dozens of cases of local physical and legal persons who have relations with Russian oligarchs and are facing sanctions

Cyprus has been described as one of the countries where trillions of dollars of Russian oligarchs are sheltered, but now the country known as a tax haven has decided for the first time to sanction all Cypriot citizens and non-Russian citizens who, however, are connected to Russian oligarchs will have their bank accounts frozen.

Specifically, as it appears from the reports in Cyprus, the assets of natural persons and companies that are under the sanctions regime of the United States and the United Kingdom against Russia in the case of the war in Ukraine have been "frozen".

Banks in Cyprus comply with sanctions against Russia whether issued by the European Union, the US or the United Kingdom. All banking operators in Cyprus, without exception, have continued to freeze the accounts and assets of the entities involved in the sanctions. It is estimated that there are dozens of cases of natural and legal persons from Cyprus who have relations with Russian oligarchs and are facing sanctions.

For this immediate decision, there was also the reaction of the US Department, which appreciated the cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, including the fight against illegal financial flows. In addition, in her post on "Twitter", the US ambassador to Cyprus stated that "a new round of determinations against the main natural and legal persons that allow the continuation of Russia's war against Ukraine has entered into force".
