US President Joe Biden during his visit to Ireland has given a speech in a bar in County Louth where thousands of people gathered to greet him on the tour of the origins of his ancestors.

Biden said visiting the area where his great-grandfather was born feels like coming home.

“Hope is what beats in the heart of all people and especially in the hearts of the Irish. "Every action is about the hope that we can make things better," Biden said.

In Northern Ireland, President Biden also met with British leader Rishi Sunak. Biden stated that the new Brexit deal could bring significant investment to the country.

"Those who have been to America and are here now know that there is a large population that is investing and cares a lot about what happens here. Supporting the people of Northern Ireland, protecting peace, preserving the Good Friday Agreement in Belfast is a priority for both Democrats and Republicans in the United States. And this is unusual because we have been very divided in our parties. That's something that brings Washington together."

Biden's visit comes on the 25th anniversary of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement that ended 30 years of bloodshed between unionists, who wanted Northern Ireland to be part of the United Kingdom, and nationalists, who wanted it to was part of the Republic of Ireland.
