The United Arab Emirates is using science to create artificial rainfall in an effort to combat high temperatures.
Recently, footage of rain pouring over skyscrapers and onto streets has gone viral on social media. The method used is called "cloud seeding" where chemicals are thrown into the sky through airplanes that serve to form clouds.
The United Arab Emirates has a predominantly arid climate with very little annual rainfall and scorching temperatures, which often touch 40 and even reach 50 degrees Celsius as of 2023.
For this method to work, there must be a few small clouds in the sky, then the airplanes drop salt and other minerals that encourage the formation of other clouds and in turn bring rain.
