When it comes to air travel, safety is often taken for granted.
After all, why climb into a huge metal tube and fly into the sky if it's not really safe? And there is no doubt that flying is, based on statistics, an extremely safe way to travel.
But in-flight safety is not only related to incidents. An AirlineRatings.com study, for example, ranks airlines by taking into account factors such as fleet age, level of pilot training and precautions, as well as the number of fatalities and "serious incidents" on board.
This year's study on the "safest airlines" of AirlineRatings.com analyzed almost 400 companies and in the first place is ranked Qantas!
Known for its new fleet and rigorous security measures, Qantas took first place from last year's winner, Air New Zealand, which came second.
In third place, Etihad Airways.
This is the ranking of the ten safest airlines in the world, according to AirlineRatings.com.
1- Qantas
2- Air New Zealand
3- Etihad Airways
4- Qatar Airways
5- Singapore Airlines
6- TAP Air Portugal
7- Emirates
8- Alaska Airlines
9- EVA Air
10- Virgin Australia/Virgin Atlantic
