The long-term security guarantees offered by the G7 to Ukraine are a threat to Russia's security, the Kremlin said in a statement today.

"We consider this an extreme and potentially very dangerous mistake," said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin.

Peskov said that if the Group of Seven industrialized countries offered any kind of commitment to Ukraine, the Kremlin would ignore the international principle of "security indivisibility".

"This means that by giving security guarantees to Ukraine, they are undermining Russia's security," he added.

The G7 intends to provide Ukraine with modern equipment for its air and naval forces.

Russia invaded the neighboring country more than 16 months ago.

Peskov also said that now is the ideal time to maintain high-level relations between Moscow and Beijing, adding that despite the fact that NATO is bringing "instability and aggression", Russia and China have "never" formed a bloc against them.
