Serious incident in Germany/ Newly elected SPD mayor attacked with a knife!

Knife attack on the newly elected mayor of Herdecke (North Rhine-Westphalia) in Germany.

Iris Stalzer, 57, a member of the SPD (the Social Democratic Party and one of the largest political forces in the country), is said to be in critical condition after an attack in front of her home, the circumstances of which remain unknown.

According to BILD, the newly elected mayor was found seriously injured in her apartment in Herdecke-Herrentisch on Tuesday (October 7).

She reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds to her stomach and back. Her adopted son, 15, and daughter, 17, were at home.

The children called 911.

Police responded and took the testimony of the 15-year-old who was accompanied. The boy told police that his mother had been attacked by several men on the street, but this testimony is being verified, to rule out a possible domestic crime.

Emergency doctors are currently fighting for the life of the SPD politician.

Following the journalists' investigation, the police have issued a high alert and are searching for the perpetrators. A homicide squad is expected to take over the investigation soon.

It remains unclear whether the crime has a political motive.
