Israel has proposed a two-month peace period with Hamas.
Netanyahu has used the mediation of Egypt for such a request, adding that this step is taken in order to release the hostages who are being held in Gaza.
Under the proposal, the first phase of the ceasefire would include the release of women, men over 60 and those in critical medical conditions.
Later stages would include the release of female soldiers, younger civilian men, male soldiers and hostages who had lost their lives.
According to foreign media sources, the proposal also included the release of 6,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
The proposal does not include promises to end the war, but would instruct Israeli troops to reduce their presence in the main cities in Gaza and gradually allow residents to return to the devastated north.
