Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Iran has attempted to assassinate one of his sons, but without providing further details on the manner or circumstances of the alleged claim.
The statement was made during a telephone conversation with Channel 14's military correspondent, Noam Amir, which aired on Monday.
"This is an incredible case. Iran targeted one of my sons. It tried to kill him," Netanyahu declared.
Asked whether the information about this case was part of the data that had been communicated to him, the Israeli prime minister repeated the claim, linking it to the need to strengthen security measures.
According to Netanyahu, the threat makes it even more important to take protective measures, as without these measures, the attack on his son could have ended differently.
At the same time, the Israeli prime minister called for restraint, especially in a sensitive political and electoral period.
Netanyahu also said he had contacted Shin Bet chief David Zini, whom he had asked to guarantee adequate protection for all candidates for the post of prime minister.
