Western allies are on constant alert. One hundred thousand soldiers at once, highly trained and ready for action: NATO is accelerating the implementation of plans developed at summits, first in Madrid in 2022 and then in Vilnius in 2023, to face a possible Russian attack.

A few days ago, the deputy commander of the Polish armed forces, Karol Dymanowski, publicly stated that "thousands of NATO soldiers are already stationed in Poland".

There are at least 100 thousand, informally confirm Alliance sources. They are part of the so-called "Response Force", the rapid reaction core that remained inactive for years, but after the invasion of Ukraine became the most important pillar of the strategy now shared by Finland and Sweden.

In the span of several months, the figures went from 40 thousand to 100 thousand units. The target of 300,000 men and women in uniform, deployed mainly on Europe's eastern flank, is still a few months away.

The center of operations is now Poland, where the United States has installed an army command with the task of coordinating the movement of ground troops along the corridor from the Baltic to the Black Sea.

Yesterday, in Brussels, a meeting was held to monitor the degree of border coverage: it was decided to further strengthen Bulgaria's defense. Great attention, of course, to airspace protection. Observation shifts have been strengthened and the network does not present problems.

Therefore, the alarm is general, although there is no room for anxiety. Of course, on Friday evening the news of the attack in Moscow caused great concern.

But now the frenzy and alarmism are useless. However, clarity is needed. For example: the mass bombings of Sunday and yesterday should not be interpreted as the first act of the Kremlin's new script.

The US maintains a key role at the military and political-diplomatic level, recommending caution. Once again, Joe Biden wants to avoid direct confrontation.

All military movements taking place along NATO's eastern border should not be understood as preparations for a direct intervention on Ukrainian soil.

The Biden administration will continue to support the Ukrainian resistance, sending weapons and ammunition, not soldiers. From this point of view, the massacre in the Russian theater has not changed anything.
