The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, called on the West not to underestimate Russia, even though it seems that in recent months, Ukraine has managed to regain ground in the war.
During his speech at a conference in Oslo, the former Norwegian prime minister said that Kiev needed more soldiers, ammunition and weapons. "Ukrainian forces have caused many losses to the Russians, but at the same time we see that Russia has mobilized other soldiers, about 200,000, and has shown that it can withstand the losses. We have no evidence that Putin has changed his plans and objectives in Ukraine. So it is dangerous to underestimate Russia," Stoltenberg said.
Stoltenberg also said that the West must invest in terms of security. "We need more soldiers, more trained, more equipment and weapons, all of these cost money."
The head of NATO also said that the West should not repeat the mistakes it made with Russia, even with other authoritarian regimes, such as China. "We cannot become dependent on their products, which make us vulnerable. We must prevent technology from being exported to them, which they then use to threaten us. We need to strengthen the control of our infrastructure, from ports, airports to 5G networks," said Stoltenberg. "I'm not saying we shouldn't trade with China, but what's important is that we should do it in a way that doesn't undermine our security."
