The result of the elections in North Macedonia, which saw the nationalist VRMO-DPMNE party alone win nearly half of the seats in the 120-legislator Parliament, seems to have worried Greece.

In an interview for Alpha television, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recalled the Prespa Agreement, signed between his predecessor in office Alexis Tsipras and former Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, in June 2018.

He sent a strict and clear message to the new political leadership of North Macedonia, saying that "we will have problems if the rhetoric expressed before the elections is also heard after them".

"I am looking with concern at some of the statements of VMRO officials and I will wait for the official position of the acting prime minister to see how he will refer to the name of his country. I personally did not agree with the Prespa Agreement. But I accepted the agreement in the framework of the continuity of the state and understood that, despite my disagreement, I had to respect it. The same demands exist even now from the leadership of North Macedonia. I want to hope that what was said before the election will not be heard after the election. If that happens, we will have problems."

Mitsotakis also had a short comment about the meeting of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama with the immigrants, which will take place tomorrow in Athens.

"Greece is a democratic country, the issue took on bigger proportions. The country could not prevent a leader from making a private visit and talking to his countrymen," Chief Executive Helen asserted.
