US police reportedly found 'explosives' in a car near the center where former president Donald Trump would hold a rally on Long Island.
If confirmed, it would be the third assassination attempt on Trump, coming just days after a gunman was caught trying to shoot Trump while he was playing golf at his Palm Beach golf club.
According to the Daily Mail, sources at the Nassau County Police Department reportedly told reporter James Lalino that at the rally site "the security perimeter was breached and a blue barrel was removed."
In addition, during the search with explosive detection dogs K9 they "found an explosive device in one of the vehicles."
The same sources said that the driver of the car where the explosive was found started running towards the nearby forest.
"Nobody saw if he had anything on him, they just saw him run away. Lots of cars are parking now, they're lined up on Hempstead Turnpike, just parking on the grass. Even at Eisenhower Park, they're just parking there," the source told Lalino, according to a post on the X social network.
Thousands of Trump fans are expected to descend on Long Island this afternoon before 7 p.m.
