Kai Trump, the teenage granddaughter of former US President Donald Trump, made a surprise appearance at the Republican National Convention on July 17 to show a side of her grandfather that people don't often see.
The 17-year-old was introduced by her father, Donald Trump Jr., who said Kai called her one day and expressed a desire to talk about her grandfather.
Telling stories that seemed to portray a softer image of Trump, his eldest granddaughter described him as a normal grandfather.
"For me he is just a grandfather like everyone else. Give us sweets and sodas when our parents are not around. He always wants to know how we did in school. "When I got my praise card, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me," Kai said.
The crowd fell silent as she began to speak about the assassination attempt on the former president on the afternoon of July 13.
"It was heartbreaking that someone would want to do this to another person. Many people have made my grandfather's life hell, but he is not broken. I was shocked to hear that he had been shot and just wanted to know if he was okay. Grandpa, you are an inspiration and I love you!" said Trump's granddaughter.
Trump, who was present, was proud of his granddaughter while listening to her speech.
