Nancy Pelosi shows the "way out" to Joe Biden: You can't defeat
Nancy Pelosi/ Donald Trump

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has privately told President Joe Biden in a recent conversation that polls show he can't beat Donald Trump.

According to CNN sources, Pelosi told Biden that he could destroy Democrats' chances of winning the House in November if he continues to seek a second term.

The president responded by telling Pelosi that he has seen the polls and they show he can win, a source said.

Another of the sources described Biden as being defensive about the polls.

The call marks the second conversation between the California lawmaker and Biden since the president's disastrous June 27 debate. While the exact date of the conversation was not clear, the source said it happened within the past week. Pelosi and Biden also spoke in early July.

Pelosi in an interview last week: “It's up to the president to decide if he's going to run. We are all encouraging him to make that decision because time is short."
