Lavrov: There can be no ceasefire in Ukraine

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia is against an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine because it would mean "forgetting the root causes of this conflict." 

"An immediate cessation of hostilities would also go against the agreements reached during lengthy negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at the August summit in Alaska," Lavrov added. 

The US president had called for a freeze on the current frontline conflict, for which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders expressed their support today.
