As part of the ceasefire agreement with Israel, Hamas' armed wing, Ezzedine al-Qassam, announced that it would hand over this Monday, October 20, the body of an Israeli hostage, who was found the day before in Gaza.
If the handover goes according to plan, this will be the 13th hostage body returned since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
Meanwhile, the European Union has warned that it may impose sanctions on Israel to maintain influence and ensure full implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
The EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has stated that sanctions, including the expulsion of Israeli ministers and the restriction of trade relations, have not been taken off the table and could be used if aid to Gaza does not arrive in a sustainable manner.
Even stronger statements have been made by US President Donald Trump. He has warned Hamas that it has only a "slim chance" of respecting the agreement, adding that if the group does not do so, it will "disappear."
"We have agreed with Hamas that they will behave. If they don't, we will go and eliminate them. If we have to, they will be eliminated," Trump said at a press conference on Monday.
